As you might have guessed...
As you can tell, I haven't updated since August. Work and other commitments have been preying heavily on me, and I haven't had a chance to keep up with the band; that and they're so busy these days. As well as that, I'm getting about 2000 spam comments and 1000 spam trackbacks a month... sadface.
With that in mind, I've put wiki software on the server and have set it up for everyone - I'd hope that we can all collaborate on it. This fansite was never meant to be just a labour of love on my part, so everyone who loves the band should get on to WikiBiffy , and put in everything that they know about the band! I know a lot of people were put off by having to register for Moveable Type and get a password and whatnot. Well, now you can do it from anywhere, on any computer!
Have fun.

Just to make everyone aware - I've switched on moderated comments due to the number of spam comments we were getting, so don't worry if your post doesn't appear straight away.

Changes to Category System
I'm in the middle of recategorising the site, so you may get some screwy results from the menus on the right hand side for the time being.
The gist of it is that, under the original MT system I used, we had to have it set out like this, so that we could show the tours that supported each release:
Gigs
-Dates
--Justboy
--57
--27
as well as:
Singles
--Justboy
--57
--27
and so on, which meant that there was a lot of double counting. Now that I've worked out how to crosspost things between categories (! shocking, isn't it?)
It'll work like:
Gigs
-Festivals
Singles
-27
-57
-Justboy
And the gig will come under both 'gigs' and '27', where appropriate, so you'll be able to access it by clicking through either category, so if you want to see the tour dates associated with a particular release, you can get it by clicking on the single itself. :)
And so marks the start of another flurry of activity for Biffier!

Just to say...
Everything was very much in a hiatus, between a combination of what was happening with the official Biffy site, a general quietness from the band, and being personally busy. Things are starting to move now. If anyone's got any videos/audio they'd like to share (live versions of released material only - nothing unreleased or off singles/compilations), then you should know the address by now:

Biffytabs site now here!
The lovely biffytabs has arrived again!

Dan's excellent biffytabs.tk site sadly suffered a bit of a misfortune with the web-hosting. There's more than enough space on the BTT servers here.
All of the tabs and whatnot are available at biffytabs.biffierthanthou.com - if you want Dan, you can reach him on the normal email address or (probably!) on biffytabs@biffierthanthou.com

Patience...
As you'll have noticed, there's not been a terrific amount happening on the site in the past few weeks. This is in part due to my own circumstances - I'm in the middle of (an utterly tramautic) house move, and I don't have access to my laptop that has all the files, pictures and sounds that I've collected over the last couple of months from all and sundry. In addition though, I made an absolute schoolboy error when I was trying to backup all my biffy stuff and MOVED it all to the root directory, instead of copying it to the new directory.... So it's taking me a while to reconstruct the folders that I had everything in. That said, it's given me the opportunity to put *everything* into IPhoto, so I may move the photo aspects of the site over to Flickr... we shall see.
However, as a taster of what's coming, here's what'll go up in the next couple of weeks:
50 or 60 posters, tickets and flyers
3 or 4 live shows (space permitting)
The Jay-Z Snake Mashup
Some details of American gigs played towards the end of last year
Reviews of Oxegen, TITP, Reading and Leeds
Ciao, and take it easy.

A bit about me, and a bit about the band...
I suppose I should probably explain about this site, and why i've put it up. I first heard Biffy (that I can remember, but more of that later), in late 2000, early 2001 when a University friend (who had gone to school with Simon) played me 'Thekidswhopoptodaywillrocktomorrow'... Being a bit under the influence and more than a bit tired, I was interested, but it didn't really grab me at the time - parties not necessarily being the best place to listen to new and exciting music, when there're a thousand and one other distractions...
Later in 2001, a friend and I (Paul, another of the authors on here) went to a gig at King Tuts to see that same friend and hang out. It so happened that Biffy were playing that gig. It was the Radio One Session in Scotland gig to promote their recently released single, Justboy. It was stunning. To a crown of maybe a hundred people, this band i'd never really heard of came on and were just... so full of energy, so full of life and passion that it totally took Paul and I by surprise.
From there, we both knew that we'd have to go and see them next time they were playing. One gig turned into two, two into four, including shows at the Arches for the Beat Room, and on from there. We roped in our other friend, Pedro in to come see them. Ever the musical nazi and unimpressed by everything, even he was convinced by this quirky three-piece from the darkest depths of Ayrshire.
In the 4 years since I first saw them, i've seen them up and down the country, to the tune of probably about 35 gigs. The biggest realisation for me came in late 2003, watching them at the Liquid Rooms in edinburgh (battle of the bands final thing). I'd seen this band about 20 times, playing the same songs, over and over, I knew every word. Was it possible that they were, in fact, my favourite band? I'd already succumbed to the thought that they were my favourite 'non-legendary' band, making a seperation between them and bands like Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Metallica. I realised though, that none of those bands, not even 'Tallica, had produced quite the same level of fanaticism in me and my otherwise rational friends that Biffy had. Yeah. They are actually my favourite band in the world, and that really rattled me for a while.
Over the years, the band have been nothing but awesome (totally, totally awesome, depending on what you read...) to me, and I have to thank them for it. I've done my best to be a hardcore fan without stepping over the line into obsession, and think i've managed that pretty well most of the time, although approaching Simon at Fugazi and saying "You're simon Neil from Biffy!" "...Aye... I know.." probably did go a bit over... :-)
Hence the site. There's an ever growing fanbase for Biffy, and we're living in one of the most documented ages ever. Internet forums, Digital cameras, live journals, megabusi and ryanair flights mean that the Biffy fanbase is coordinated and linked up to an incredible extent. I wanted to record and bring together all the stuff that those fans document, the complete resource for the band, if you like. What it won't do, and what I'm not interested in is people stalking the band, or intruding into their private lives. Hence the name; it's not an elitist thing, it was a phrase coined in irony, but it does represent what the site's about, to show everything that the band's done. Biffier. Than. Thou.

Biffierthanthou Forum
I should point out also, since a couple of people have now said, that the biffierthanthou forum is here . It's still in it's initial format, but eventually we'll have a forum for each of the categories on the site, and the two will be quite closely linked together, I hope. :) Have fun.
There'll be a lot more stuff starting to appear soon, although things may come and go as Paul tinkers with the design and layout, please be patient, and let us know what you think.

A Whole New World
Well, this looks like the initial post of the Biffierthanthou site (BTT). Muchos thanks to Paul for the work he's done and is doing in setting the site up for me. My knowledge of this sort of thing ran out largely after I'd managed to set the board up, which was pretty hit-or-miss. Thankfully, on that occasion i managed to hit, so we'll just leave it at that.
The photo you can see attached is Biffy doing their 'live in the living room' set, on 6th December 2004, in Glasgow. I'm happy to say that the band and their management picked my flat for that particular event, for which I shall be eternally pleased, and ever so slightly smug.
In terms of what you can expect from the site... well. The behemoth of Biffy fansites that was d2fm (rest in peace, my digital friend) has been taken down, as many of you now know. However, there are two main sites looking to pick up the slack. Musical Bliss will deal with the media side of things - recordings, performances, videos, and the like. BTT, this site will pick up the slightly more community-oriented side of things, like gig listings, the new fan forum, photos, tour diaries from a fan perspective, and general gossip and news.
The site will come online more and more over the next few weeks, as and when I, and the other contributors, have time to add stuff on. We're also looking for contributions, particularly in terms of setlists for gigs you've been to. Feel free to send them on . Everything gratefully received.
The focus of the site is to be a community site. This will be the general framework, but we'd like to see lots of people contributing. Fan diaries, gig reviews, everything like that - need to come from you. I can't get to half as many gigs as I'd like to, so it simply wouldn't work.
Always yours
