B-listers..

Just a brief note to say Biffy's Saturday Superhouse has been moved up to B-list status on Radio 1's weekly playlist, fighting for space alongside the likes of Lily Allen, Razorlight, Pink and Take That.
The hype continues.

The song will get 10 to 15 plays a week on primetime Radio 1.

Big up the C-list massive..

Having dented the Radio 1 airwaves last week on the 1-Upfront List, Biffy have been bumped up a place to the C-list playlist, rubbing bums with the likes of Razorlight, The Fratelli's and Camile Jones vs. Fedde Le Grand.

The new playlist is compiled at a meeting chaired by the Head of Music each Wednesday and according to the BBC, tracks are selected on what they think the public want to hear, so it's making a good impression with someone. This is highlighted by the track getting a 93% approval rating on Edith Bowman's website.

Being on the C-list means the track will get 5 to 6 plays during daytime Radio 1 programming every week, across any show. Hopefully as release date nears we can see a climb into the B-list and maybe even the cream of the crop A-list section!

The months ahead..

Biffy Clyro had a chat with Edith Bowman today about future plans around the release of Puzzle.
They all seem very excited about what's happening and alluded to a European mainland tour around March/April, after which they'll return to the UK for some shows around the album's release in May.

Puzzlement continues about the exact schedule of the 4th album but needless to say, I'll punish you with more news closer to the time.
In the meantime, get your ferries and flights booked for a spring time break on the continent!

Radio 1 Exposure

The beefy Biffsters have been getting some nice exposure on the nation's largest music radio station, Radio 1. Not only have they been playlisted for the first time in the band's history but they've also been chosen as Edith Bowman's 'Top Track' for the song Saturday Superhouse.

The maiden of Fife will be playing the track every day this week (ending 2nd February) with a Biffy fact each day, submitted by the band. Not only this but today (30th Jan) there'll be a wee interview with the band.
So that's our favourite band, on daytime radio, reaching listeners in offices, worksites (well they might listen to talksport) and businesses across the land.

Now's probably the time to send in a request for Biffy at your favourite Radio station/show. Or after hearing it the radio, send one in and enthuse about what a gem of a band Biffy are and how good the song is. In fact, yesterday, an e-mail i sent to Edith Bowman was read out. It read;

"Hi Edith

Get some Biffy Clyro on the go! They're my favourite band and the daytimes masses need to hear them. Did you see them on the tour? Phenomenal. Britain's biggest band in waiting. I'm sure you agree!"

She did agree and that's the kind of thing we want people to hear. Top 10 album. Come on!

Puzzle release date!

Far more than 40 days until the album!!

Edit: Maybe...

HMV site has a release date of the 5th March - it's not clear if the release date on the site's an American style date or not.

Edit 20/1/07 : This has been confirmed as an incorrect date.

It's available for pre-order! - but it looks like the instores have been put to that week as well.

Edit 18/1/07: The Play.com website has the release date as 28/5/07... which confuses matters slightly.

Neither Virgin or Amazon.co.uk have a release date listed yet...

'Saturday Superhouse' Single Rumours..

Some keen types on the official Biffy Clyro messageboard have been investigating on the World Wide Web and uncovering some supposed release dates for Biffy's first 'proper' single from Puzzle and also the possible schedule of Puzzle's release.

Kelkoo, PureGroove and the file-sharing site Oink all have listings of the single.
Now I must stress, this is strictly NOT fact, but seems logical and quite exciting. There are conflicting dates but the general consensus is that the song 'Saturday Superhouse' will be released early to Mid-February with the album coming in late May.

Whether or not this happens, you'll have to wait and see, but it's all very exciting for me at least!

The song got it's first ever airing in front of a lucky Perth crowd last night, having witnessed it, I can safely say you're in for a nice surprise.

Christmas stocking fillers..

More details of the very Biffy Christmas are emerging..

Drownedinsound.com are reporting that along with the downloadable single, 'Semi-mental', two further tracks will be streamable on December 25th, what those songs are or what their nature is remains a mystery.

It also reports that unlike previous download singles from the Biff, this one will be available through iTunes and most other paid download services.

Download only single! Radio play! It begins!

Yes, the wheels are turning in Biffydom. News was posted on the official website describing details of the band's first single from the upcoming album, 'Puzzle', that song will be live favourite 'Semi-mental'. The song will get a world premiere on Zane Lowe's 29th November Radio 1 show.

The download-only single will be released on Christmas Day, presumably they're in cahoots with Santa as I know what was on my list.

Full details and specifics of the release are due to be posted within the coming weeks, so stay tuned.

Album tidbits

As winter draws in the Biffy boys are nearing completion of their much anticipated 4th album.

As well as giving us a place to nosy at the goings on in Vancouver in the form of http://www.ilovebc.net, a message from Si has appeared on their myspace page.

"Moving To New York...

'hey there killers and lovers,
we are finishing off recording and are moving to new york to mix the album with motherfucking andy fucking wallace. our little minds are running around in circles with excitement at the prospect. it sounds fucking huge. me think you like.
very bravo. el si.' "

Andy Wallace, if you didn't know, is a legendary figure in music having worked with the likes of Rush, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Slayer to name but a few. His most recent project was actually mixing the mythical Chinese Democracy album. How about that?

Stay tuned for more news as we get it!

4th King Tuts night

(from Kerrang)

ALIVE AND AMPLIFIED
BIFFY CLYRO TO PREVIEW NEW ALBUM AT INTIMATE HOMETOWN SHOW

Biffy Clyro will give their fans an early Christmas present when they play their brand new album at a special show on December 16.
"Our fans have always been so supportive and we wanted a special way of saying thanks," frontman Simon Neil explains to K!. "We thought we'd play the brand new album for them. We'll get someone onstage to sing a song of their choice with us too. It'll be exciting for everyone!"

The band will enter the studio shortly to record their fourth album, with an eye on a March 2006 release. The album - which will feature the curiously titled tracks 'Asexual Meat Kitchen', 'Get Fucked Stud', '9/15ths Prayer Of Bybomidor' 'Semi-mental', and 'Puzzle - will be their last for Beggars Banquetbefore signing with a major label.

"The titles are pretty weird but it's balls-out rock!" says Neil. "We know where we're going after Beggars and we want to tour all over the world. We don't want people in Britain to get sick of us. You can't tour Britain a dozen times a year as people will get bored of you. We're very aware of that. We've got an exciting time ahead and are aiming to be the most innovative band as we can be."

Biffy to sign to a major?

Rumour has it - and possible more than just rumour - there appears to be growing speculation to the point of fact- that the band are to sign to 14th Floor Records, a subsidiary of the Warner giant.

The generally accepted consensus is that the band will release their next album with Beggars, and then move on to pastures newer and greener. Will this see a backlash that other bands such as Idlewild have seen, with the makeup of the fanbase changing dramatically once on a new label. Overall, I think that this is a good thing... Biffy have always been pretty criminally undersold by Beggars, and the level of exposure and profile they had always seemed to be more to do with the band's own work than that of the record company PR machine. There's a lot goes on behind the scenes that we as fans never see, but we're ultimately interested in how much support our band seems to get in public. Under a bigger label with bigger budgets, better and cheaper distribution (and conversely, bigger artistic 'pressures' on the band)

There are rumours on a few industry forums that this is fact, not speculation... there's been no official word from team biffy, other than to keep the faith at present... but the future looks good.
