The months ahead..
Biffy Clyro had a chat with Edith Bowman today about future plans around the release of Puzzle.
They all seem very excited about what's happening and alluded to a European mainland tour around March/April, after which they'll return to the UK for some shows around the album's release in May.
Puzzlement continues about the exact schedule of the 4th album but needless to say, I'll punish you with more news closer to the time.
In the meantime, get your ferries and flights booked for a spring time break on the continent!

Radio 1 Exposure
The beefy Biffsters have been getting some nice exposure on the nation's largest music radio station, Radio 1. Not only have they been playlisted for the first time in the band's history but they've also been chosen as Edith Bowman's 'Top Track' for the song Saturday Superhouse.
The maiden of Fife will be playing the track every day this week (ending 2nd February) with a Biffy fact each day, submitted by the band. Not only this but today (30th Jan) there'll be a wee interview with the band.
So that's our favourite band, on daytime radio, reaching listeners in offices, worksites (well they might listen to talksport) and businesses across the land.
Now's probably the time to send in a request for Biffy at your favourite Radio station/show. Or after hearing it the radio, send one in and enthuse about what a gem of a band Biffy are and how good the song is. In fact, yesterday, an e-mail i sent to Edith Bowman was read out. It read;
"Hi Edith
Get some Biffy Clyro on the go! They're my favourite band and the daytimes masses need to hear them. Did you see them on the tour? Phenomenal. Britain's biggest band in waiting. I'm sure you agree!"
She did agree and that's the kind of thing we want people to hear. Top 10 album. Come on!

Simply amazing. Barrowlands, eat your heart out.
Photos and whatnot to follow. Some of the highlights were - breaking a string during the last bit of 57 - some AWESOME rockstar shapes being thrown by Simon and James during Wave Upon Wave, Simon getting semi-naked during Kids from Kibble (what was all the stuff getting thrown on the stage?), absolutely beautiful, deafening sing-a-longs, and most especially, the intensely loud booing at being ushered out sans encore because G-A-Y was on afterwards.
Rawk.

A thank you to the lovely Miranda for this excellent review;
This will be Biffy's first visit to Newcastle for just under 3 years now. While all has been quiet on the Biffy touring front for just over a year it makes you wonder if the Newcastle population has forgotten just how good Biffy are live - the crowd at the Academy is smaller than it should have been for such a ferocious live act.
With the upstairs seating area closed and an army of young kids downstairs who seem to be here for the support acts only, curiosity builds as to who exactly (except for me and my friends) are actually here for Biffy. My question is soon answered midway through the set of the flamboyant (yet rather dull) I Am Ghost, when the cheers for Biffy threaten to drown out the band. At one point the singer even threatens the crowd when the shouting continues through two songs. It's small entertainment in an otherwise boringly polished performance from the up-and-coming "emo" band.
After the band has skulked off the stage, tails firmly between legs, the next band enters. The crowd react more positively to this band, it would seem that a rather large portion of them are in fact here to see The Audition, who, whilst are able to get the crowd going, seem rather contrived, but not lacking in energy. It's the same formula that's been tried and tested, and while it works, you can't help but think it's something you've seen so many times it's all rather boring now.
So two bands in and whilst the fans of both aforementioned bands are happy, those amongst us that didn't come here to see Kerrangs! new favourites, are rather happy to see The Bronx step out onto the stage. We knew they were going to put in a hell of a performance but when the lead singer throws himself into the crowd (with a twisted knee no less) we know we're in for a treat. Cue a mass pit with blood, tears and lots of sweat. Brilliant, for all the right reasons. What the other bands lacked, The Bronx made up for.
The crowd is buzzing, the only people that are left are those that want, and can't wait to see Biffy, and the odd person that wants to see what the fuss is about. All this makes for an electric atmosphere. "Biffy" is chanted over and over and as the band takes to the stage you can't help but feeling proud. The hairs on the back of my neck stand up as the opening chord of "Semi-Mental" rings out through a know silent, and utterly exhilarated crowd. As the main riff begins the crowd goes crazy. It's an awesome spectacle. The day’s break that the band has had has obviously helped as they launch into Toys for which the audience thoroughly appreciate, Simon hardly has to sing during Joy.Discovery.Invention, and through his hair you can see a faint smile. The highlights of a rather impressive set list include Hero Management, Wave Upon Wave Upon Wave and The Kids From Kibble and The Fist of Light. The new songs (Saturday Superhouse, Get Fucked Stud and Now I'm Everyone) get a rapturous crowd response, the majority of people singing along with all they've got. They cap off a magical performance with Glitter and Trauma for which the crowd uses the remaining energy they have to truly salute it. Biffy have started the year off tremendously, they have marked 2007 as their year, and they are going to be huge. I know it, you know it, the media knows it... ‘mon the Biffy.
Thanks Sascha, for these photos.. nice lights!

There's No Such Thing As A Jaggy Snake
Thank you Gerard for this.. angry(!) review;
So, I saw the mighty Biffy tear Manchester a new arsehole Saturday night on the Kerrang tour 2007 and decided to have my second stab at concert reviewing! I should have put this up sooner really but I'm a lazy little Fucker!
As it was part of the Kerrang tour it meant not just the Biffy but a bill crammed full of the hottest talent in Rock music right now... Erm yeah right! First up Iamghost I think the name says it all. I just savoured my pint while the 13 year old girls screamed themselves silly over the make up wearing lead singer screaming about how shit life is. Why don't you just fuck off back to L.A mate! Possibly their only redeeming feature was the relatively (when compared to 4 make up wearing fat male goths!) attractive viloinist who attempted to bring some subtlety and nuance to their bludgeoning onslaught but was buried so far down in the mix as to be inaudible!
So far so . Up next Theaudition. What is it that these bands think is so great about not using spaces in their names?! After about 1 and a half songs I decided it was time to head back to the bar if I was going to survive the night with my sanity intact. Luckily the queue around the bar had increased significantly from my previous visit allowing me to conveniently miss the rest of their set. Phew!
Hitting the stage (quite literally!) next was the Bronx who had no problems enlivening the, up until now, laid back crowd. Their energetic hardcore display made all the more impressive by the fact that their lead singer had royally fucked up his knee on the first night of the tour. Where other bands might have called it a day and limped back to the states this guy was everywhere covering every inch of the Academy's stage as well as finding time to throw himself into the audience, at one point marching straight out into the middle of the pit for an inpromptu meet and greet! Much respect to that man! The Bronx provided easily the highlight of the night so far. Not a difficult task given the shite that had graced the stage before them you might say, but to put just how good their performance was into context, during the break between bands I briefly began to wonder if the mighty Biffy could top such a ferocious display!
All doubts however were removed during the opening note of SemiMental. Whereas my previous attempt at live reviewing, for Snow Patrol, was fairly lucid and attempted to break down the evening and bring some kind of analysis this review will contain no such luxuries. It is all but impossible to describe the feelings I get from an event such as this. As you may or may not know with Biffy now signed to a major label, their first majort label realease due in the spring, 2007 is shaping up to be a very important year for Team Biffy and they are showing absolutely no signs whatsoever of fucking thimgs up. As each new challenge is placed before them they seem to be able to comfortably raise their game, seemingly without breaking a sweat. As it stands I think I can reasonably declare that this was my favourite Biffy concert so far of the innumerable I have been to. Old favourites were greeted with the same rapturous singalongs as ever whilst newer material slipped seemlesly into the set whilst a few dedicated fans were singing along already. Though it seems futile to select favourites from such a stunning set it is impossible to ignore the harsh beauty of new track Get Fucked Stud. The ABSOLUTEFUCKINGBEAST that is 57. The sheer adrenaline rush of Bodies In Flight (which a number of the crowd took a little too literally deciding to take the opportunity for a bit of extreme crowdsurfing, including one girl who's tits landed squarely on my head on her way to the barrier .) None of these however could compare to the encore, by which time I was exhausted. My legs could barely maintain my weight and my lungs were gasping in vain for air yet nothing could wipe the shit eating grin off of my face as I used every last breath in my lungs to scream the refrain from Glitter And Trauma. "You are the human strobe..." Sadly it had to come to an end leaving the crowd baying for more, to the point that I'm seriously considering making the trip to Liverpool for tomorrow's show.
What else is their to say apart from 'Mon The Biffy! Such was my sheer post gig euphoria that even after a 30 minute bus ride from the venue I had still failed to recover my breath or wipe the aforementioned shit eating grin from my face! My housemates were convinced I was drunk or had shagged someone but who needs such base stimulants when you have the power of the Biff. Fuck everythong else it's nights like that I live for people will eventually let you down. Music is gonna be there forever, holding me above the waves.
Deano's Review
'It's been awhile since Biffy Clyro have played to people other than their own disturbingly die-hard fanatics. But with the band's first major-label record on the way a Kerrang! headlining tour was always on the cards.
Supporters I Am Ghost and TheAudition dissopointingly fall into their respective generic categories whilst the ever-increasing-in-popularity The Bronx warm up the crowd with such enthusiasm that screams out 'We're not just here to warm the crowd'. Frontman Matt Caughthran thanks those in attendence for coming and then proseeds to jump on them, egnoring the broken knee he suffered earlier in the tour.
As soon as he hobbles off stage with his bandmates the 'biffy! biffy!' chants begin and 15 minutes later the band grace the stage in darkness to an astounding cheer. The trio play 5 brand new songs with verocity in between old favourites like Justboy, 57 (with an impressive light show) and a personal favourite Toys, toys, toys, choke, toys, toys, toys. The subtle hint to those watching who aren't aware of the old songs is the screaming of every single lyric, drum part and guitar hook involved in the set. Tonight Biffy look like the biggest band in the world. The threesome seem to have a lot more fire in their Scottish bellies, and so they should. The power in their sound has been years in the making. 2007 marks the chance to show it to the world.'

Puzzle release date!
Far more than 40 days until the album!!
Edit: Maybe...
HMV site has a release date of the 5th March - it's not clear if the release date on the site's an American style date or not.
Edit 20/1/07 : This has been confirmed as an incorrect date.
It's available for pre-order! - but it looks like the instores have been put to that week as well.
Edit 18/1/07: The Play.com website has the release date as 28/5/07... which confuses matters slightly.
Neither Virgin or Amazon.co.uk have a release date listed yet...

Never come across this site before, but it's pretty neat.
Key phrase for me: "album's devastating climax, 'Machines'." Ohh yeah. I'm also seriously digging chat about the orchestral arrangements!

Huge thanks to Jez for this review of the night;
Not since 2005 had Biffy Clyro visited 'this fair city'. Since that night, live gigs have lacked the excitement, the palpable tension and the sheer adrenaline which you only find at a biffy gig.
Having arrived early, and being at the front of the queue, watching people arrive was interesting at best. All manner of 'emo/scene' types join the line of people, which does eventually stretch round the corner of the venue.
First band on are I Am Ghost. To give them their credit, they hammer out some decent enough metal-core-with-hardcore-'breakdowns-and-'emo'-tendancies (with a violinist) which the kids who obviously came to see them lap up with relish. Unfortunately for them, they feel a lot like a future flavour of the week and hopefully will be gone in no time.
The Audition are greeted with many a cheer and a raised slashed wrist from their fans. These wannabe post-hardcore type peddle dreary pop-rock for the masses, and it leaves me unimpressed. Although the monumentous cries of "MON THE BIFFY" eventually reduces the lead singer to chanting along with us in between songs. When he fails to be held up by the crowd during their last song, it feels like he should give up. They finish...Eventually.
After a wait, The Bronx proceed to tear me, and many others, a new arsehole. Simple as. Loud as fuck, happy as Larry and dirty as sin.
Once they finish, the floor empties somewhat, only to be filled back up with as many chanting, buzzing Biffy fans as possible. You could cut the excitement with a knife. the rapturous cries which greet the band as the migrate to the stage is thunderous, only drowned out by the opening feedback twang of semi-mental, which the crowd do,infact, go mental for.
Biffy own stages like this, with the crowd in their hands. With many of the kerrang-ites exodus-ing to the back, it leaves the floor open for a few pits during moments like the closing minute of Hero Management or stunning newie-Get Fucked Stud, masses of people jumping up and down, for Kids from Kibble... and the next single - Saturday Super house (during which, I fell over, onto someone), and jovial sing alongs, 57, Justboy and Wave Upon Wave Upon Wave. The boys plough through an hours worth of songs with ease, finishing an amazing set with live fan favourite, Bodies in Flight, only to re-emerge with a rapturous Glitter and Trauma, only topping that with Jaggy Snake which exhausts every ounce of energy from every single person in the room, including Mr.Simon Neil, who promptly stage dives into open arms.
They even played my personal live favourite, Toys, which made me have a more than a few eargasms all at once.
Admittedly, the abundance of kerrang kids and/or people there to see the first 2 bands does somewhat dampen the atmosphere, as does the slightly muddy sound. But once biffy take to the stage, you forget all that and just get lost in the music, excitement and sheer brilliance of the band. Biffy can only go on from strength to strength. A flawless set of songs, a magnificent light show and an amazing crowd revelling in every moment this band plays a note. Fantastic.
Thanks to GandT off of the Biffy boards for these quite excellent photos!

Times Online Review
The music once known as heavy metal is suffering a serious identity crisis. In recent years, the genre’s most high-profile media cheerleader Kerrang! has increasingly championed softer forms of rock, notably the more melodic and emotionally expressive “emo” scene with its large and youthful fanbase. As a consequence, it has overtaken its chief rival, NME, in sales. Both publications now target the same readers, cover similar bands and promote themselves with package tours featuring up-and-coming acts.
There was certainly little in the way of traditional heavy rock when the latest Kerrang! tour arrived at Cardiff on Sunday night. Indeed, only the opening act I Am Ghost conformed to familiar genre clichés with their Gothic image and baroque sound. Alas, the Californian sextet also drew the short straw and played to a half-empty hall.
A slightly larger crowd greeted the next band, the Chicago natives Theaudition. Dressed in suburban-mallrat gear, they played songs that were pleasant enough in a lightly metallic, boy-meets-girl way. But like most emo kids, their polished power-pop proved instantly forgettable as soon as they left the stage.
Confusingly named the Bronx, the third American act on the bill actually hail from Los Angeles. They were also the evening’s most flat-out entertaining spectacle. Despite the singer Matt Caughthran being hobbled by a recent leg injury, the brawny young Tony Soprano lookalike still managed to command the stage with his breakneck bellowing and serial-killer grin.
Meanwhile, his colleagues played an ultra-percussive, rowdy racket in the style of a 1980s hardcore punk band. The overall effect was exhilarating, amusing and refreshingly non-emo.
The only Brits on the tour are the headliners Biffy Clyro, a Scottish trio whose complex song structures and angular guitar solos again owe little to traditional heavy rock. But they were clear favourites with the young Cardiff crowd, who roared along to old and new songs alike. Impressively, many had even memorised the lyric to the band’s choppy and ferociously fast new single, SemiMental, before its release. A clutch of more melodic tracks from their forthcoming fourth album, Puzzle, also went down well.
The influence of Nirvana and the Pixies on the singer and guitarist Simon Neil’s stop-start, loud-quiet, angry-sad songwriting is impossible to ignore, but generally positive. Biffy Clyro played a slick and professional set, which may even provide some pointers to the future of heavy rock — assuming this beleaguered genre actually has a future.
But all the same, the Bronx stole the show with their boorish, brilliantly stupid, bull-in-a-china-shop energy.
The tour continues at Nottingham Rock City, tonight; Southampton Guildhall, Thursday; Norwich UEA, Friday; Manchester Academy, Saturday; Newcastle Academy, Monday; Glasgow Barrowland, Jan 23; Liverpool Academy, Jan 24; Birmingham Academy, Jan 26; London Astoria, Jan 27

Simon will be interviewed by Jo Whiley on the 'In New/Live Music We Trust' show at 9pm on Radio One. There will also be some classic live biffy tracks played.
Saturday Superhouse will be played on the same station at around 10.40 tomorrow morning (Jo's show again, one assumes.)

Best gig I have ever been to, did everything anyone would want and easily out did the rest of the bands. No crowd surfing or getting naked at this gig but it was still the best gig ever, as is every gig with Biffy Clyro, the band I see to be the best in the world. The gig started off slow with the not so good bands but it was all worth the wait and it was all worth the destruction of my ribs. When Biffy came on the time flew but they did a perfect set and didn't give too much away for Puzzle . Salute The Biff x

'The cheer that greets Biffy Clyro as the walk onstage is deafening. And rightly so, as the Scots trio, who have doggedly toured the UK, have been quiet of late, relocating to Vancouver to record their major label debut 'Puzzle'. Opening with their Christmas Day download 'Semi-Mental', if feels like the band have never been away. If there's any nerves about coming back properly after such a lengthy absence, there's no sign of them as they effortlessly mix a smattering of new songs (Get Fucked Stud, Now I'm Everyone and hit-single-in-waiting Saturday Superhouse) with the old (Joy. Discovery. Invention, 57 and Justboy). The 60-minute set closes with the anthemic Bodies In Flight and they power through encore Glitter And Trauma, with frontman Simon Neil threatening to scream his lungs right off.
The new material suggests that 'Puzzle' will be even more immediate, direct and yet will sparkle with the inventiveness that's characterised their previous output. 2007 will finally be their year.'
Give a round of applause to Liam for this nifty review;
The last time Biffy graced Ireland was what seems like an absolute age ago, 10th December 2005. Come Friday morning i had never felt so excited about going to a gig, i just knew this was gonna be special, i wasn't disappointed. After finishing a college exam in record time, i hopped on the bus with a friend and headed up to Dublin.
Upon arriving at the venue, around 4pm, i got there just in time to see Biffy emerging from the stage door, much to my delight of course, especially as another friend had been waiting there since 11am after getting the 7am train from Cork!
So after meeting and greeting it was time to find the hostel in which we were staying, (7 of us in all), so after getting momentarily lost we found the place and by this stage it was time to head over to the venue. Once we got there we saw that the queue was massive, many people chanting "we love the biffy, we do" etc.. Seeing as we wanted good places we went right to the front of the queue and stood there, no-one said a thing, we were the first in .
By this stage the anticipation was building amongst everyone, alot of people appeared to be there for the 3 support acts but you could tell the Biffy diehards would show.
I Am Ghost raced through their set, i can't really remember much of them as i wasn't paying much attention, the people that showed up for them seemed to love them and thats cool, but they aren't what i look for in a band.
Next, the Audition, they possibly got the worst reception, their feable attempts to get a "Wall of Death" going and for people to clap along didn't really go down well and people seemed to get bored quickly. It felt like their set went on for ages.
Now, The Bronx, one word, LOUD, oh and one other word, OUCH. For those of you that have seen the Bronx you will understand the loud part, as for the ouch, this stems from personal experience at being kicked in the head by the lead singer launching himself into the crowd. Loads of people turned up for The Bronx and their performance was explosive to say the least.
The time finally came, once The Bronx had left the stage it felt eerily quiet for a while, The Bronx fans dispersed and the Biffy fans started to appear. Gradually the atmosphere grew until people were hoarse from chanting "Biffy". To the right, two friends make a bet on which song would be played first, one says "Glitter and Trauma", the other "Semi Mental". Suffice to say as Biffy grace the stage and the intro chord to "Semi Mental" is slammed by Si, the whole place erupts.
The set seemed to fly past, the new songs were accepted really well and you could certainly tell which people were from the forums, i.e. the people who knew the lyrics to the songs! A nod from James in our direction is accepted with a cheer! Each song was accepted as well as the one before, of course people are hoarse by the end of the first song but that doesn't stop people singing their hearts out. As much noise as possible is made for "Saturday Superhouse" as alot of people are in the knowledge that it is being recorded.
Deafened after a monumental performance by Biffy, we all leave the venue and begin our wait for our heroes to emerge. An air of satisfaction surrounds the place as the crowd thins, after waiting for two hours to meet them i can't help but think to myself,
"This IS the one".
And cheers to Liam for the photos.

Next single to be played on R1 tonight
Radio One's rockshow will play the next single 'Saturday Superhouse' between 12 and 2 tonight. Not content with Jo Whiley giving it a 'Mon the Biffy' during the day. Nice... :)
