Loughborough Uni

Bit of an interesting one this...

Setlist, review, and photos, all inside!

One of the venues that isn't exactly on the touring circuit, so there were a few 'issues' around the security and crowd arrangements. Despite the band's tech rider having a crush barrier specified, the Uni didn't provide one. Mistakes were made, and lessons learned, although possibly at the slight bruising expense of some of the crowd at the front.

Support bands were Halfway Tyler, and Johnny Panic.

Setlist:
Glitter and Trauma
Bodies in Flight
JDI
MRI
Semi-Mental - new song
Justboy
Eradicate the doubt
All The Fucking Way Down
Asexual - new song
Kids from Kibble
Only one Word
Q and A
Jaggy

Wave upon Wave

"Fantastic show

My thighs are covered in the biggest bruises I've ever had after spending most of the gig being sprawled on the stage against the amps but it was worth it. A bath certainly wouldn't go a miss anyways. By the time 'Eradicate the Doubt' ended I had to get out. But I did worm my way nicely back to the front after a much needed rest. My legs wouldn't stop shaking from the sheer pressure of everyone behind me.

We got there about 7.15-ish and briefly, as we walked by to the entrance we saw a fire exit open and heard what sounded like a new song. So we huddled around the fire exit watching Biffy soundcheck. Unluckily, it didn't last long though as a security guard came up and closed us out.

We did speak to the local support guitarist while we were there who was so genuinely excited about playing with Biffy. They were fairly average though but much better then the band that followed them.

I really I'm suprised about the lack of crowd barrier. After seeing the venue and noticing that there wasn't one there in the soundcheck. I thought the reason they extended the door opening time from 8 to half 8 was to put one up. A line of white duct tape isn't going to stop anybody.

I really thought Johnny Panic were terrible. It was hilarious when the singer fell and I thought they were extremely funny without really trying to be. The lyrics, stage presence and banter between songs had me in hysterics. "Our debut album has just come out and it is without a doubt the best album of the year" and "this song really could be a hit".

Tthe setlist was great and the sound was really good too for Biffy. The two new songs and of course 'All the Way Down' were highlights.

Neil and Adam did look slightly concerned and it was a relief that no-one was hurt too badly. Thanks go to Neil for handing out the much needed water as the security only really started to notice and help once he intervened. Once Biffy started too the guard used both me and Fran to shove everyone back. I ended up on the floor from the force of him and everyone pushing me. "

Sounds like an ace gig despite the lack of barrier. It always seems like Biffy Uni gigs or their smaller gigs in general are great.

Totally... in my experience, some of the best gigs have been at Unions - the QMU gig and Durham Uni spring to mind. :)

I was lucky enough to blag a press pass and view everything from the side of the stage in order to take a load of photos. Sadly and embarrasingly, my camera died after three shots, though i think ive managed to multi-expose one frame about 10 times of biffy. could be amusing, ill get in the darkroom and sort them out when i get the chance if anyone's interested?

The set was awesome though, although as said before, quite what security thought a white line was going to do in the way of crowd restraint i'll never understand.
